Larry Brown Helping Calipari At Kentucky Practices

Jan 28, 2011 10:39 PM

Larry Brown has attended Kentucky practices this week. He'll be at Saturday's game against Georgia, but will not be sitting on the bench, Calipari said.

John Calipari calls Brown a friend and mentor.

Brown, who parted ways with the Charlotte Bobcats earlier this NBA season, is serving as another set of eyes "to maybe throw me some ideas we haven't thought of," Calipari said. "I just like he's here. I like hanging around him. I'm more relaxed."

Center Josh Harrellson said Brown has been participating in practices.

"He'll even stop drills like Coach Cal does and put his input in," Harrellson said. 'It's great having a legendary coach here building us and helping us out."

Kentucky Holds Off Late Charge By South Carolina

Jan 23, 2011 10:47 AM

No. 12 Kentucky defeated South Carolina 67-58 on Saturday, enduring a late rally by the Gamecocks.

Brandon Knight had 23 points and Terrence Jones scored 14 for the Wildcats.

Kentucky had spent the past few days dealing with a video clip of Calipari swearing at Jones, his 6-foot-8 freshman, about selfishness during a timeout in Tuesday night's loss to Alabama.

Calipari apologized for the language, but not the message.

"Our coach isn't the first in college basketball who ever cussed. That didn't even bother me," Jones said. "Coach Cal talks to us just to get our attention and make sure we're doing what he wants us to do."
